Classification for Trailers
Promotional trailers are advertisements for upcoming films that are usually shown just prior to the screening of a movie, on outdoor video walls, on television displays at cinema lobbies and/or other public areas.
Before they can be shown, such promotional trailers must be submitted to the Board of Film Censors (BFC) for classification. In fact, all advertisements that are meant for theatrical and/or public exhibition have to be submitted to the BFC.
Promotional trailers are classified and rated the same way as films and videos.
Suitability for Audiences
While most trailers are suitable for viewing by general audiences, there are some trailers that are passed with conditions that it should not be shown with a movie meant for/ targeted at children. Examples are trailers depicting some horror, mild coarse language or violence.
Promotional trailers of films rated R21 should not be screened with films of lower rating. Meanwhile, trailers classified specifically as NC16 and above can only be exhibited to persons who meet the stipulated age requirement.
