Digital TV Services in Singapore
Digital TV services are provided by StarHub Cable Vision, SingNet’s mioTV and MediaCorp.
All channels provided by mioTV and StarHub are digital channels in standard definition or high definition (HD), while MediaCorp broadcasts Channel 5 in both analogue and HD (HD5).
Subscribers to mioTV or StarHub can receive MediaCorp’s HD5 for free as part of their pay TV package.
Receiving Digital Free-To-Air (FTA) TV
Consumers can receive HD5 via the following three ways:
- • Over the Air
To receive over-the-air digital signals, a consumer will need either:
- an indoor or rooftop antenna and a set-top box (Consumers with HD-ready or HD TV sets can enjoy the full benefits of HD5. Consumers with analogue TV sets will receive HD5, but the picture quality will not be HD); or
- an indoor antenna or rooftop antenna and an integrated digital TV, or iDTV, set. Do note that over-the-air reception via the antenna is not good at the moment. The proper infrastructure to receive digital channels over-the-air will be put in place in tandem with MediaCorp rolling out its channels in HD.
- • StarHub
Consumers can subscribe to StarHub’s HDTV services. StarHub offers HD5 free with subscription to its HD service. For more information, visit http://www.starhub.com/tv.html.
