Broadcast, Publications and Arts Appeal Committee (BPAA)

What the Committee Does

The Broadcast, Publications and Arts Appeal Committee (BPAAC) was formed on 15 Nov 2006 as a result of merger of three appeal committees (the Broadcasting Appeal Advisory Committee, Publications Appeal Advisory Committee, and the Arts Appeal Advisory Committee).

The BPAAC advises the Minister (MICA) on:

·  Appeals against MDA's penalty decisions on breaches of broadcasting codes;

·  Appeals against MDA's regulatory decisions on publications;

·  Appeals against MDA's regulatory decisions on issuance of Arts Entertainment licences;

·  The quantum of fines decided by MDA.

In addition, the committee also advises MDA on guidelines for broadcast, publications and arts entertainment.

The BPAAC is appointed for a term of three years and its 20 members include experts from the arts and media fields, educationists and community representatives.

The current committee is led by Mr Choo Thiam Siew, President of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. Please click here for a current list of BPAAC members.
