Television

Free-to-air TV refers to television that is transmitted over the air without charge for the delivery of the signal to the viewer. MediaCorp, Singapore’s only free-to-air broadcaster, offers a total of seven channels for viewers.

Starhub Cable Vision – the only cable TV provider in Singapore – offers multi-channel cable television and fast Internet via a cable modem service.

IPTV covers the transmission of television programming – either full scheduled channels and/or video-on-demand content – to households via a broadband connection using Internet protocol.

Video-on-demand (VOD) refers to services which allow consumers to select and view programmes or video content on a television, computer or other electronic device at any time, on request.

Organisations that need to access time-sensitive information for business decisions are allowed to operate a TV Receive-Only System. These include financial institutions, foreign embassies and tertiary institutions.

Television programmes are required to comply with different Content Codes depending on the licence issued to the broadcaster.
