The Box-Set initiative was introduced in June 2009, whereby video distributors need only affix a single rating certificate for box-sets submitted to the Board of Film Censors (BFC) for classification.
The definition of a box-set defined by the BFC is a franchise/trilogy of a film such as the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Harry Potter collection. Box-sets that are submitted to the BFC for classification must be the finished product with appropriate titles and packaging.
Highest Rating Applies
The certificate which is to be affixed on the packaging of the box-set will carry the highest rating of all the titles within the box-set.
The move from affixing multiple certificates to a single certificate is part of cost-saving initiatives introduced by the BFC for the video industry.
Consumer Advice
In order to help consumers make informed choices, video distributors and companies are required to display the relevant consumer advisories on the packaging of the box-sets.
The consumer advice will be furnished by the BFC.
A label specification guide for box-sets has been designed to assist video distributors in providing clear and consistent labelling on the box sets.
