Films Appeal Committee (FAC)

What the Committee Does

Film distributors and filmmakers who submit their films for classification may sometimes disagree with the decision of the Board of Film Censors (BFC).

To provide an avenue for appeal against film classification decisions, the Films Appeal Committee (FAC) was formed in the 1950s. Under the Films Act, the FAC is empowered to make such order as it deems fit with regard to:

· the approval for exhibition of any film which is the subject of appeal;

·  the excision or retention of any part of any such film;

· the classification of any film.

The decision of the committee is final.

Who They Are

Representing a cross-section of society and age groups, the 15-member FAC consists of members who are chosen for their interest in films and commitment to public service.

The current committee, appointed for a term of three years, is chaired by Mrs Mildred Tan, Managing Director, Ernst & Young Associates.
